Emerald Sunday – Saltwater

September 21st, 2023

My friends over at Emerald Sunday (Dundee based rock band) are releasing a new single called ‘Saltwater’ on the 29th of September. It’ll be on all digital platforms. I’m honoured to make a guest appearance on the harmonica.

It’s a lovely acoustic song that was written by Wesley Watts. Wesley was a good friend of Alan in the band and sadly he passed away earlier this year before he got a chance to record any of his songs. It’s a lovely tribute to him, please go and check out the band and the song when its released!

Happy 13th Birthday to Doricana!

May 10th, 2023

My album Doricana turns 13 years old today!!

It was a funny one as it consisted of songs from two separate sessions.

Three of the songs came from a session in 2008 that was going to be an album called ‘Torn Between Two Everyrhings’, overall we did 8 or 9 full band songs and decided to keep ‘Good for something’, ‘Into my Garden’ and ‘Peace in my mind’.

However, i put them on the back burner to go out and play live as much as i could as I wasn’t vocally ready or good enough to sing those songs at that point.

The other session was held in Signature sound studios (San Diego) sometime in January 2010. Myself, James Hood & Enrique Platas went in with Alan Sanderson to record 10 songs, completely live and acoustic, just like we had been playing the pubs and clubs of Southern California at the time!

The album was mixed in two sessions, one at The Way studio in London (August 2009) and the other at Hyde Street studios in San Francisco (February 2010) It was mastered at Universal studios some time in March or April 2010 and released 10th May 2010.

It was such a great learning curve and wonderful experience…thanks to all that were involved in it!

Joined Up Writing – a Lockdown collaboration

November 24th, 2020

Back in May during the first lockdown, local North East poet Fin Hall came up with a novel idea to while the days away. He asked people to contribute to a poem called ‘Joined Up Writing’. Anyone could contribute to this from novices to hobbyists to published poets and indeed published songwriters. The idea was to use a word from the last line of the previous verse in the first line of your verse and so it went on, ‘Joined Up Writing’. I contributed a verse amongst 100 different voices.

Amazingly, Fin ran with this, secured publishing and it’s now available to purchase on Amazon. Even better, the proceeds of the book are going to Fin’s chosen charity; Willows Animal Sanctuary up in Fraserburgh, Scotland:

https://www.willowsanimals.com/

So, if anyone fancies adding a wee bit of local collaborative lockdown poetry as a Christmas stocking filler all in the name of charity then please grab a copy at the below link:

Edgar Allan Poets – Single Review

November 17th, 2020

Thank you to Edgar Allan Poets for their kind review on my new single:

“Clyne’s music immediately reminds you of Bob Dylan, fantastic lyrics and folk sounds.
The Production is of the highest level and you feel like listening to the artist live, near a fire at sunset.
The melodies and the amalgam of sounds make you immediately dream of the Scottish Highlands where William Wallace once fought and lived.
I got thirsty listening to Clyne’s music, beer and especially whisky are the best company while listening to these wonderful songs.
His kind of music varies between alternative, folk, country and rock and each song can surprise you by adding a new element.
We are talking about a musician of the highest level, you can tell by the quality of the chords progression and the sound quality of his albums.
Fantastic discovery that we must suggest to all of you!”

‘Louder Than War’ magazine – Single Review

September 16th, 2020

Massive thanks to Joe Whyte and the team over at ‘Louder Than War’ for the single review for ‘Where The Ships Go To Die’:

“…Stunning new single from award-winning Scots singer. Joe Whyte gets the lowdown….”

…From Aberdeen, Colin Clyne’s debut album “The Never Ending Pageant” was given a raft of favourable reviews and airplay by the esteemed Bob Harris on BBC6 Music among many others. This new single is a slight change in direction from the folky-rootsy-trad elements of that debut album and sounds to these ears like the American Gothic of Tom Waits, the dark poetry of Nick Cave, the everyman blue collar rock of Steve Earle and oddly enough, one-time next-big-thing Glaswegian rockers Gun…”

Stonehaven Radio Station P&J piece

June 30th, 2020

The Press and Journal’s Scott Begbie has done a historical piece on Stonehaven’s old Ship to Shore Radio Station from it’s role in World War 2 and the Piper Alpha tragedy. He spoke with some of the folk that used to work there as a working ship to shore radio station, including my Uncle Gordon Reid and Ally Taylor.

He also talks about it’s future as a brewery for Six Degrees North Brewery in Stonehaven.

I was interviewed for my input on my 2010 song ‘Stonehaven Radio Station and Me’ and touched on my upcoming (comeback) single ‘Where The Ships Go To Die’.

Please give it a read. It’s a wonderful piece.

Colin Clyne lyrics in new CG Buswell Book!

December 2nd, 2016

Scottish author CG Buswell references my music and lyrics in his most recent book ‘The Drummer Boy’. CG’s books usually revolve around Scottish Army Battlion the ‘Gordon Highlanders’, which in itself it ironic as my Father was indeed a member many moons ago.

In the authors own words:

‘…Colin Clyne is the singer whose lyrics feature in The Drummer Boy novel and I think they seamlessly slotted into the sadness, anger and then elated moods Scott was feeling…’

This wonderful novel can be purchased here:

Also, they’ve been listening to my two albums on a non stop loop for a few weeks. The milk yield during this period of time will be noted and we shall find out if ‘Country Music’ (Doricana) improves milk yield in dairy cows…….watch this space!

The Never Ending Pageant – video promo

April 3rd, 2014

I’m delighted to share with you a new video created by San Diego Film maker Craig Rian to help promote my upcoming studio album ‘The Never Ending Pageant’.

The Never Ending Pageant

February 26th, 2014

Hello folks,

My new album ‘The Never Ending Pageant’ is finally finished. After recording the main bulk of the tracks last year at Analog Chew Studio in Santee, CA, I recently returned to California to mix and master it at the legendary Hyde Street studios in San Francisco.

Once again, my good friend, mentor and Grammy Award Winning Engineer Alan Sanderson was in the main production chair. There was also some additional work undertaken by world renowned Producer & Engineer Ken Allardyce at his studio in Nairn, Scotland.

At the moment I don’t have a release date set in the place as I work on a few things in the background before hand. I also hope to have a video teaser (from San Diego film maker Craig Rian) up on-line soon with regards to it. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Thanks kindly for all your continued support and patience.

Happy New Year from…………me!

January 1st, 2012

Well, 2011 was a great year for me. Toured several times, wrote new songs, met new friends, saw new Countries, got a lot of radio play, played on the Telly, won a San Diego Music Award, filmed a couple of tours, played on the Isle of Skye, enjoyed many, many nights of laughter, music and ‘drink’ all while having my lovely wife with me. However, most importantly, the news I’m going to be a Father was by far and away the best of the best (once it sunk in)!!

I look forward to all the new exciting things that will happen in 2012 and will continue to focus on the postives as opposed to the negatives which will be discarded like a fireball into Stoney harbour!

2012 for me will be a tale of 3 Dragons, and I’m going to embrace it with a lot of energy. As for the Mayans, they can kiss my arse! 🙂

Have a great New Year everybody, I hope your 2012 will be everything you want it to be!

San Diego Music Award

August 9th, 2011

It’s with great delight (and a slightly sore heid) I can announce, I won ‘Best Acoustic Act’ at the 2011 San Diego Music Awards! I thanked a few people last night in my acceptance speech but there are so many more I wish I could have thanked before getting the stage hook! 🙂

This win was down to all my friends and fans who voted for me and pushed the name out there. It’s a messy business but we got there in the end. Without you this couldn’t and wouldn’t have happened. I love you all.

Celtic Crossroads show, Oceanside, CA, USA

June 15th, 2011

Friends,

It’s with great excitement that I announce ‘Celtic crossroads’.

Irish fiddler extraordinaire Patric Petrie (of Skelpin), Irish singer songwriter David Lally and myself are holding an event at Oceanside’s delightful Sunshine Brooks Theatre. This evening of music will be held on Saturday the 25th of June at 730pm. The title is a suggestion of all our ‘celticness’ and how they intertwine and cross paths………..or something to that effect!

The format will be a showcase of our own individual styles combined with some collaborations between each artist and some special guests. Members of my band, including James Hood on lead guitar and Scottish Percussionist John McCallum will join me on stage to perform songs from my Internationally acclaimed album Doricana. Quite possibly a few Scottish favourites will be thrown into the Celtic cauldron and we’ll see how it tastes!

Tickets for this unique evening can be purchased direct from myself, David or Patric. They can also be purchased at the door and through the venue’s website:

Tickets are currently priced at $15.
http://www.nvtheatre.com/Tickets.htm
Please feel free to ‘share’ this event on Facebook too:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=118199008259843&ref=ts

This will probably be my last performance in Southern California till the end of the Year. So, I hope to see all my friends and fans come out and enjoy a evening of music friendship and laughter.

Colin

Scottish Tour August 2009

July 23rd, 2009

Hello folks,

It’s been a while since I was last in touch with some of you.

I am delighted to announce some UK gigs in August but due to the credit crunch, swine flu and Peter & Jordan’s impending divorce (shocking) I’ll be sticking to playing in Scotland!

Following my Scottish tour I’ll be doing some recording in London where I’ll be continuing to work with current Rolling Stones Engineer Alan Sanderson on the follow up to my 2007 debut ‘Songs from the Cold Store’. There are very few of these left but I believe these are unlimited on iTunes if you fancy giving Apple the lions share of your 99p per track! 🙂

Hope to see some (all?) of you somewhere, sometime………till then!

Cheers
Colin
